Roselle Middle School News
Roselle Middle School (RMS) houses approximately 230 sixth, seventh and eighth grade students. Many of the students attending are of the second generation to attend Roselle Middle. RMS is one of five elementary school districts whose students attend Lake Park High School.
Response to Intervention (RTI)
RTI is a process designed by the Illinois State Board of Education to help schools focus on and provide high-quality instruction and interventions to students who may be struggling with learning. The data from benchmark testing, MAP testing and classroom performance are used to inform teachers which students may benefit from interventions. If a student shows a need to improve in two of the three assessments, the student will be placed in an intervention setting. An intervention is a specific type of instruction used to help with a specific type of problem and is matched to student needs. Reading interventions may include comprehension, fluency or vocabulary strategies. Math interventions may include concept applications or computation strategies. Students meet with a reading or math support person each day where student progress is monitored often to check the effectiveness of the instruction and interventions. When a student makes sufficient progress, he or she is moved out of intervention. RTI is not a special education program. RTI is a tutorial system which strives to meet the specific needs of struggling students.
