 The District 12 Challenge Program provides assistance to both students and their classroom teachers. Ann O’Neil, the Challenge teacher and gifted facilitator, meets with identified groups of students in 3rd through 8th grade to extend what they are learning in the regular classroom. She also modifies curriculum and helps teachers differentiate instruction for these students in their homeroom. The objective is to ensure that students are challenged throughout their day in school. Ms. O’Neil also acts as the facilitator for teachers in kindergarten through 8th grade. She works with the teachers on extension activities they might like to try with a particular group of students. Occasionally students who have not formally been identified as qualifying for the Challenge program are included in small group activities when the classroom teacher feels it is appropriate to meet the instructional needs of the students. |
